the thing with a match cut is you have to cut on the action.

right when your actor is in the middle of lifting his hand, you cut it. then match it with a shot at a different angle and shot size, right on the other half when your actor is about to finish lifting his hand.

like when you're trying so hard and then finally getting a lot of things right... there's a cut. and you have to do the success-hardwork-work-my-butt-off thing again, but seemingly at a fresh start.
